About Me

Marie-Lou Chatel
Colorist of historical photographs

I live in Belgium with my cat Mingus.  Since my adolescence, I’ve always been interested with the work of the great photographers of the 20th century. To understand those moments of history, I specialized in colorization of old photographs. Although the black and white photographs are captivating in their own right. I try to bring something new, to propose to the viewers to re-seeing these colorized photographs from a different angle, a new perspective. My goal is to find the colors as close as possible to reality. I work with a repository of shades of gray at the base, but I mainly rely on my instincts and my imagination. All photographs that I use are public domaine..
